Why is my Tow-Pro FLASHING BLUE and GREEN?

How will this appear?

The Tow-Pro Elite remote head will flash blue and green when a trailer is connected.

What does the BLUE AND GREEN flashing mean?

The Tow-Pro Elite is in calibration mode.

Why does the Tow-Pro Elite need to Calibrate?

The Tow-Pro Elite calibrates to determine the vehicle’s direction of travel and to ‘learn’ its mounting orientation. This process occurs when the vehicle is moving and the brake is applied, and will occur with or without a trailer connected. The unit will perform a calibration when it’s first installed or reconnected to the direct power source.
Until the Tow-Pro has completed a calibration cycle, it will function as if in User-Controlled mode. This is indicated by the LED glowing green with blue flashes and, as the calibration cycle progresses, the length of the blue flash will increase, to the point that the LED is solid blue, this indicates that the Tow-Pro is now operating in Proportional mode.

Under normal driving conditions the Tow-Pro Elite will calibrate within 20 brake applications.

Note that applying the brake while the vehicle is stationary will not assist with calibration.

If no trailer is connected, calibration may occur as normal without any indication from the LED.

I didn’t expect my Tow-Pro to enter calibration mode?

If your Tow-Pro has gone into calibration mode and it hasn’t just been recently installed or experienced a power cycle, like a disconnection of the starting battery, then the calibration might be due to a power cycle occurring for the Tow-Pro.
This is usually due to:

  • A malfunctioning circuit breaker can intermittently cut power to the Tow-Pro which results in the Tow-Pro resetting and requiring re-calibration.
  • A loose or defective connection on either the power (black) or ground (white) wire to the Tow-Pro unit.

HOW TO COMPLETE THE CALIBRATION PROCESS?

Although the Tow-Pro will calibrate automatically during regular vehicle operation, a ‘quick calibration’ as detailed below can be carried out if immediate towing is required after installation and/or a power cycle.

The following process can be carried out with or without a trailer connected however if a trailer is not connected there will be no indication from the Tow-Pro Elite’s remote head.

Please make sure to adhere to all traffic regulations and ensure that there are no vehicles trailing closely behind you before engaging in braking manoeuvres.

QUICK CALIBRATION PROCESS

  1. Gradually raise the vehicle’s speed to around 60km/h.
  2. Employ a consistent and firm application of the brakes to decelerate the vehicle.
  3. Once the vehicle has slowed down to approximately 20km/h, accelerate the vehicle back up to a speed of 60km/h.
  4. Continue to repeat this sequence until the Tow-Pro’s remote head displays a solid blue indicator (trailer connected).
In cases where there is no trailer attached, it is recommended to repeat this process approximately 10 times.
