At the start of the year, I was lucky enough to get a Tow-Pro Elite electric brake controller, a BCDC1225D In-vehicle battery charger and a 72w Portable Solar blanket to install into my new 1966 Olympic brand horse float so I could travel the country for the Australian Mounted Games.
Back in the day, they built horse floats strong, so strong that they are now perfect to fix up. I spent 5 weeks in my brother’s fabrication workshop where I worked, turning it into a brand-new float ahead of the big trip.
Out with the old and in with the new
The float has electric brakes so the Tow-Pro Elite is perfect for a horse Float because when you tow horses you need to be as gentle as possible. It is important to have the electric trailer brakes working in sync with the vehicle's brakes as it makes such a difference in how smooth the trailer brakes operate. With the Tow-Pro Elite, I can even adjust the braking force depending on whether I’m travelling on dirt roads or steep narrow roads.
Reliable power makes all the difference
Travelling with horses is a lot harder than just towing a caravan around and having reliable power makes all the difference. Being able to pull up in the dark and have lights is so beneficial when you are trying to get the horse's yards set up and settled for the night. With the DC to DC battery charger I know I will have the power to run the fridges, lights and even charge my phone because the battery charger is charged directly off the alternator as I drive and once we are set up at camp it will charge the battery directly from the solar blanket.
The portable solar panel provides more than enough solar power to keep the battery charged up even when we are camped for a week. While the solar blanket is compact enough to be tucked away when we are travelling and is quick and easy to set up when we arrive at camp.

Arriving at the Games
The Australian Mounted Games WA is the world's most popular and inexpensive family friendly mounted games. It is a series of very fast races that require a high degree of athletic ability, good riding skills and good hand to eye co-ordination.
8 riders race in their lanes, with everyone trying to get across the finish line first. Mounted games are the only equine sport where teams must work together in order to participate in the races. Mounted games are usually run over 2 days on weekends at different locations around the state, mainly pony clubs and some fairs throughout the year.

8,000km’s, 4 states and 3 weeks later
In April 2017, I made the long drive to Wentworth, New South Wales via a 3-week trip to ride in the Australian Mounted Games Pairs Championships. With more than 8,000km, 4 states and 3 weeks living out of the horse float, I’ve given the REDARC gear a good test run and it hasn’t failed me once.
Without the power from the REDARC gear, I wouldn’t have been able to travel across the Nullarbor as easy or as stress-free. Thank you REDARC.
