14-months around Australia – Why I'm Doing This

14-months around Australia – Why I'm Doing This

It’s a book, speaking and empowerment workshop tour.

What did I buy?

I decided to buy an Isuzu D-MAX LS-U UTE with a Jayco Starcraft Outback (22.68-1) caravan so that I had the space to carry books and workshop equipment whilst also having a nice living/working space.  The D-MAX has the power to tow the caravan and gives me the freedom to go exploring when I’ve un-hitched the van – its also got a great reputation for having a fantastic engine and awesome fuel economy.

Where am I going?

I left Melbourne on the 14 March 2016 (six weeks later than I had planned to leave) and have raced up the east coast to Brisbane in 22 Days (arrived on 4th April 2016). In doing research for this trip, a lot of people who have done the big lap had suggested that it’s advisable to travel between Cairns and Broome between April and September – as that is during the ‘dry season’ and the roads are more easily passable and the weather is the most comfortable. As I didn’t have a chance to organise or facilitate any workshops from Melbourne to Brisbane, I’ll come up the east coast again very slowly after I’ve returned from Tasmania – and facilitate workshops in the towns I have already passed.

What do I plan to do for 14 months?

I will be speaking about and selling my book ‘Change your vibration.’ I intend to facilitate 13 weekend empowerment & life-transformation workshops (approximately one weekend retreat per month as I travel around the coast.). I will also help promote R U OK? Day, to encourage people to talk about their mental health and seek assistance if required.

Why am I doing this?

In Australia in 2010, 2,361 people committed suicide and 20% of Australians will suffer a prolonged depressive episode in their life. In the U.S.A. 12% of men and 20% of women have suffered from the effects of depression and ten million US citizens are taking anti-depressants. Globally, more than 350 million people of all ages suffer from depression. These statistics shocked me when I first read them.

I have witnessed rapid and outstanding transformations that occur with my one to one clients and workshop participants. Because of this, I decided to write a memoir – which includes my 12-step life transformation guide. I now want to help reduce the rates of depression and suicide around the world and I would like to reach out to a larger audience.

My ‘big dream’ and purpose for this trip is to help 2,500 Aussie improve the quality of their life while I’m on tour. Wether it be from reading my book, coming to a speaking gig or coming to a retreat – I’d like to know that somehow, I’ve helped a lot of people feel better about themselves, love life and be living their dreams too.

Lisa Atkins (from Bunbury, Western Australia) sent me this testimonial after reading my book:

“Taking my life back!

I read Carmine Caputo’s book Change your vibration, while I was stuck within my house and bed, crippled with panic attacks. I’d forgotten how to love and have faith in myself! With the help of his book, I slowly began to realise that I can change the way I think and I could become me again. I have since been able to leave the house, socialise and I go back to work tomorrow after a 7-month break. Thank you Carmine for showing me the way and helping me take my life back! Xx”

                                                                                                                                                             – Lisa Atkins

People who want to ‘change’ a part of their life, find their ‘purpose/meaning’ of life or who suffer from depression, anxiety or other mental health issues relate to me and my story. I experienced a family tragedy at the age of 17 years, which caused me to travel with depression for approximately 13 years. I went on a long search for happiness, suffered anxiety, overwhelming fear, many dark nights and a scattered mind. I was exhausted, medicated and numb of emotions for many years. At the age of 33 years, I experienced a health scare, this was my turning point to transforming my life. I integrated new wellness techniques into my life and soon experienced stillness of my mind, my soul found the answers it was looking for, I found peace, personal satisfaction and began to live an authentic and inspired life.

I received a 2nd chance at life, I let go of regrets, grievances and fears – I opened my heart again and experienced an enormous positive emotional shift. I want to share my success story and the wellness techniques that transformed my life with you, so that you can feel the same amount of love and happiness that I have experienced. I want to inspire you to experience emotional freedom, self-empowerment, self-acceptance, forgiveness, to let go of regrets and take a second chance at living the life you really want to live.

Who is helping me to do this?

I’ve had six big Aussie sponsors come on board to help this dream come true.

I’d love to thank JaycoARBREDARCZyluxWeber and Steel Blue for their generous support that has helped me to get on the road.

What’s next?

I’d very much welcome the assistance of a publisher to help print and distribute the book and future books around Australia and the world.

I’d also very much welcome an event manager or management company to help co-ordinate and promote the weekend events.

When I’ve completed the initial 14-month trip around Australia, I would love to rent or buy a seaside retreat / healing centre and workshop venue along the coast in Victoria (as my family reside in Melbourne)

I would also like to conduct more travel, speaking, workshops, writing and photography / filming (possibly go inland and places I haven’t been yet).

Here’s some more info regarding the background and planning of this adventure:

I’f you’ve read my book, come to an event or have been following my journey on Facebook over the last few years, you’d know that I’ve been dreaming about buying a 4WD Ute and Caravan since August 2012. I published my book ‘Change your vibration’ in July 2014, went to Chicago for the Conscious Living World fair in August 2014 to promote and speak about the book, then returned to Australia and have spent all of 2015 getting ready for this enormous road-trip and change of lifestyle.

I sold my house in 2010, left my full-time job in November 2012 and have been working my butt off to see this dream come to a reality. In February 2015, I sold my car and bought an Isuzu D-MAX dual cab 4WD. In October 2015, I ordered a Jayco Starcraft Outback 22.68-1 Caravan and picked that up on December 16th 2015. I then sold my motorbike and motorbike trailer. The van had been in storage while I was sorting through and packing all my household belongings.  I then brought it home to start loading it up and to do some local trips to get used to living in the van and driving it around.

It has been a lot of work, a lot of faith, sometimes a challenge and a bit scary to let go of the ‘old life’ to let in the new adventures … and although there’s no guarantees about what the future may hold, I’m feeling really happy and privileged to have the opportunity to do this trip of a lifetime around Australia. I’m 38 years old … some people don’t get to do this trip till they retire and some unfortunately plan for this kind of trip – then something happens and they can’t do it anymore.

What I know for sure is, I’ve always followed that path of my heart, I’ve always had somewhere to sleep, food to eat, friends to have fun with and many wonderful adventures along the way. Yes, I’ve been scared and sometimes had doubts about what I’m doing, though I’ve seen the fear and chosen to follow my heart regardless. Balancing having the dream come true with being practical has taught me a lot about patience, perseverance and just doing the work when it needs to be done.

I hope that if you have a dream, something your heart is calling you to do – that you do listen to that inner voice and do something today to have your dreams come true.

I’d love to thank JaycoARBREDARCZyluxWeber and Steel Blue for their generous support that has helped me to get on the road.

Thanks for being a part of my journey – I hope to see you on our next adventure,

Love, Carms xx
